Star Wars Breathe Lite
You never know who you might meet. At work, at parties, at social events, the possibilities are endless. Well, I met Joseph Covas the other day and he also works for News 14. We hit it off, I’m telling him about Second Cinema, and he’s telling me about his production company…what, that’s freakin’ awesome!
We hope to share many more films/projects from Joe and his team, but this is the first film he showed me and I thought I’d pass it along. It’s a Star Wars fan film commercial spoof that’s being entered in Atom.com’s 2010 Fan Movie Challenge.
It’s fantastic! Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.
Here’s some detailed background about the film and production:
The commercial was shot in hopes to enter into the star wars fan film contest 2010. Voting for the contest begins this summer and the contest is held by Atom.com.
The short was made in the vein of an SNL digital short, because I’m a huge fan of comedy. The project took about 6 months to complete. That includes pre-production, story-boarding, stunts rehearsals, getting costuming squared away, and constructing the set. The set was built in the back of Wilmington Camera Services in (obviously) Wilmington, NC. It was shot on the RED ONE camera and our bedroom view into outer space is green screen/CGI.
Our actress who plays Vader’s unfortunate wife is Tori Rogers of Hickory, NC. Actor and Stuntman Jack Harrison portrays Vader. Tori is an aspiring model and Jack has been featured in numerous independent horror films - most recently a film where he plays bigfoot titled “Savage”. Our crew was comprised of local filmmakers from the Wilmington area.
The project was a good way for me to continue to make contacts in the wilmington film industry. I also made many friends over the months spent working on the project who have sense contacted me to work on their projects.
Thanks again to Joseph for sharing his film and if you’d like to contact him, you can shoot him an email at joecovas@hotmail.com
